MailScan 3.1a for Lotus Notes acts like a Content-Security and Anti-Virus Software between your Corporate Lotus Notes Mail Server and the Internet.

It has the world's first "Real-Time" e-mail Content-Security and Anti-Virus that analyzes the e-mails on a real-time basis before they are delivered to the clients or the servers on your network. Both SMTP & POP3 are supported.

Technically, a new layer, known as the MicroWorld WinSock Layer (MWL), has been introduced between the default WinSock2 and the applications. MWL analyzes the traffic that flows between the Microsoft Exchange and the Internet.

Besides providing Anti-Virus and Content-Scanning features, MailScan also has a Generic Attachment Analyzer, Automatic Compression/Decompression feature, a comprehensive notification Engine, etc.

MailScan uses the eScan Content-Security and Anti-Virus solution to scan all the attachments in the e-mails. The e-mails that are sent to and received from the Internet are scanned and cleaned. Its' contents are checked before your e-mail server processes the same.

All MailScan processes are multi-threaded. This ensures that all e-mails are parallely processed.

All types of attachments are handled by MailScan, including MIME and UUEncoded.

RFC822 attachments, Embedded e-mails, Multipart-Mixed and Multipart-Digest types are also taken care of.

	The unique features of MailScan are:
		No port settings or changes need to be done inside Lotus Notes.
		No Gateway machine needs to be dedicated for using MailScan. MailScan will work along with Notes on the same machine.
		Unlike other products, you will NOT lose any of the SMTP functionality's given by Lotus Notes.
		MailScan will work only with Lotus Notes version 5 and above.
	Points to Note:
	The existing version of MailScan will Scan only the e-mail traffic between your Lotus Notes and the Internet. It will not scan the e-mails inside your Lotus Notes databases and those flowing internally between local users.
