MailScan 3 is world's first 'Real-Time' Content Security Software that performs content filtering and virus scanning to offer complete and secure messaging solution for the e-business.

MailScan 3 a has been designed to provide extensive security on a "Real-Time" basis against viruses and e-mails carrying harmful content. It deals with these threats before they arrive on the network, in the same way that a firewall controls user access.

MailScan for Mail-Server acts like a "Transparent Gateway" between the Corporate Mail Server and the Internet. All the mails pass through MailScan that ensures security and delivery of messages.

MailScan works on "TCP-IP Port level" and hence does not require an additional machine to act like a gateway. MailScan is based on MicroWorld's pioneering "MicroWorld-WinSock-Layer (MWL)" technology, the first of its kind in the world.

What is MailScan 3?
MailScan 3 is world's first 'Real-Time' Content Security software that performs content filtering and virus scanning. It offers a complete and a secure messaging solution for e-business.

With MailScan's revolutionary technology that creates a layer, termed as MicroWorld WinSock Layer (MWL), any traffic that comes into a company's network is scanned with respect to the security violations. If any security violation or threat is detected, MailScan immediately warns the network administrator and the sender of the possible actions.

Why MailScan 3?
With the increased use of the Internet as a communication medium, the threat of a viruses entering an organization has highly increased. About 90% of the viruses today enter the organizations via Internet. The only solution is to provide content security or, in a broader sense, security plug-ins, at the gateway level and most importantly, everything has to be on a "Real-Time" basis. MailScan has been developed to deliver all these functions.

MailScan provides a comprehensive virus, harmful-carrier and content security. It stops these threats before they arrive on to the company's network.

How does MailScan 3 work?
MailScan for Mail Server acts like a "Transparent Gateway" between your Corporate Mail Server and the Internet. Being a gateway, all the mails pass through MailScan where the following functions are performed:

Scanning all the e-mails for viruses before letting them through the gateway.
Content control on the body of the e-mails.
SPAM control by checking the validity of the mail senders and their IP-Addresses (available in MailScan for SMTP).

Features of MailScan 3?
MailScan 3 is world's first 'Real-Time' Content Security software that performs content filtering and virus scanning. It offers a complete and a secure messaging solution for e-business.

With MailScan's revolutionary technology that creates a layer, termed as MicroWorld WinSock Layer (MWL), any traffic that comes into a company's network is scanned with respect to the security violations. If any security violation or threat is detected, MailScan immediately warns the network administrator and the sender of the possible actions.

Integration with the Mail Server
MailScan works on the "TCP-IP Port level" and hence does not require an additional machine to act like a gateway. MailScan is based on MicroWorld's pioneering "MicroWorld-WinSock-Layer (MWL)" technology, the first of its kind in the world.
MailScan for Mail Server acts like a "transparent gateway" between the Corporate Mail Server and the Internet. All the mails pass through MailScan, thereby ensuring security and delivery of the messages.

"Real-Time" Scanning
MailScan captures all the data with the help of its revolutionary "MicroWorld WinSock Layer", performs virus and content scanning at the gateway and then delivers the content to the mail server, thereby providing security on a "Real-Time" basis.

Anti Virus Scanner
MailScan has its' own Anti-Virus, 'eScan', which has been integrated with the software.

Content Scanning
All incoming and outgoing messages are scanned for abusive words and/or phrases, which are pre-defined by the Security Policy Administrator of MailScan. If any such words are found, warning messages can optionally be sent to the Administrator, the sender and the recipient.

Global Content-Control policies (pre-defined words and phrases) are dynamically updated from the Internet at regular intervals, along with normal Anti-Virus and Policy updates.

Compression
Oversized files are compressed using the standard file compressors. MailScan can be configured to create '.EXE' files or self-extracting zip files that can be automatically uncompressed at the recipient's machine, even if the recipient does not have an Unzip Package installed on his machine.

Uncompress Facility
All the incoming attachments, if in compressed form, can be optionally uncompressed, scanned for viruses and then passed to the Mail Server for distribution to the end users.

Virus Scanning
MailScan scans all the incoming & outgoing mails for viruses using the 'eScan' Anti Virus software, developed by MicroWorld.

Virus infected attachments are dis-infected and then forwarded to the actual recipient. Non-curable virus infected attachments are either deleted or quarantined. If MailScan detects a Word or Excel attachment that contains an infected macro, it removes the virus from the attachment. Clean Macros are not removed from the document.

In case of any virus infection, appropriate warning messages, with the Virus Name, Action taken and e-mail details, are sent to the e-mail Sender, the Recipient(s) and the Mail-Server Administrator.

Automatic Updates
MailScan has self-learning and automatic detection capabilities that recognize the Internet connectivity. When MailScan detects an Internet connection, it automatically connects to MicroWorld's FTP server to check for and download updates, if any. With this feature (that works on dedicated as well as dial-up lines), all MailScan users across the world receive the updates on a daily basis.

Automatic updates can be via FTP or HTTP. Proxy and Firewall (Passive FTP) support is provided. Broken FTP updates can be resumed from the point-of-break.

Scan Control
Administrators can define a selective list of users whose mails need to be scanned for any restrictive content, as defined by the Network Administrators. Administrators can also block certain domains (users can neither send mails to nor receive mails from such pre-defined domains).

Attachment Reservation
Administrator can restrict certain attachments from sending to or receiving from the Internet. For example, a rule can be defined so that any e-mail received by a user having *.EXE or *.COM file attachments, should be auto-forwarded to the administrator. Unknown viruses can be very effectively tackled using such rule-sets.

Policy based Rule-Sets
MailScan works on policy-based Rule-Sets. Rule-Sets have been categorized as Universal Rule-Set and Company-specific Rule-Set.

A Universal Rule-Set is defined by MicroWorld and is applicable to all the customers.

Company-specific Rule-Sets are configured by the Network Administrators and are specific to a company.

Integration with eScan
MailScan integrates with eScan which is the workstation version of MicroWorld's Content Security software. Updates of anti-virus and other security policies flow automatically to the workstation (if the user has eScan installed on workstation) without any user intervention.

Customized Messages
Customized Virus Warning, Content Warning and Reserved Attachments Warning can be sent to the Administrator, the sender and the recipient.

Warning messages can either be text or HTML Messages. They can either be in English or any other language.

Forcibly Scan HTML Messages
It forcibly scans pure HTML messages (without any attachments) to prevent any script viruses (like Bubble-boy).

Malicious Attachments Deletion
It provides an option to forcibly delete known malicious attachments (Trojans and worms) at the gateway level itself. This list is dynamically updated from the Internet at regular intervals, along with normal Anti-Virus and Policy updates.

S/MIME Check of Messages
MailScan has the capability to check if an e-mail is digitally signed (S/MIME) and warn the user, in case the content gets changed.

MailScan works like a Service
It can be installed as a System-Service on Windows 95/98/ME and Windows NT/2000.

Heuristics Scanning
MailScan's heuristics scanning feature ensures that 90% of unknown viruses are automatically detected by it, much before the world even gets to know about these viruses. Suspicious attachments, caught by MailScan's heuristics engine, are quarantined.

Easy and convenient Administration
MailScan provides a very easy and convenient way of administrating Rule-Sets and Security Policies. Users can install MailScan and leave it at its default settings. All threats, updates, Security-policies & rule-sets are "automatically updated" from the Internet, without any user-intervention.

Get Up-to-date names of Viruses via e-mail
Whenever MailScan automatically updates, the administrator is informed (via e-mail) of the time of update, date of update, the number of files downloaded and also the list of viruses that the update takes care of. Virus Policy updates are done on a daily basis.

Extensive Logs
Every action of MailScan is properly logged. Size of Log files can be controlled by the administrator and appropriate backups of old Log Files are also maintained.
