Double and High-Density Floppies

HiCopy will format both 5.25-inch and 3.5-inch double-density and high-density floppy diskettes for their normal capacities:

• 5.25-inch double-density - normally 360K

• 5.25-inch high-density - normally 1.2M
• 3.5-inch double-density - normally 720K
• 3.5-inch high-density - normally 1.44M

• 3.5-inch super high-density - normally 2.88M

It will also create special formats on those ordinary diskettes so they will hold more data than before:

• 5.25-inch double-density - up to 420K (+14%)

• 5.25-inch high-density - up to 1.312 (+9%)
• 3.5-inch double-density - up to 820K (+17%)

• 3.5-inch high-density - up to 1.785M (+24%)

As you can see from the above figures, HiCopy's increases in formatted diskette capacity will let you put more data on the diskettes. Typical users can save enough on diskette storage to pay for the HiCopy program very quickly.

Disk Copying Via Virtual Memory

HiCopy uses "virtual memory" to make efficient one-shot copies of your floppy diskettes. That means it copies the contents of floppy diskettes into available RAM or the hard disk as needed to accelerate the copying process. To make it even faster, HiCopy doesn't copy individual files. Instead, it copies the entire disk image all at one time from the source diskette into memory, and then it copies the entire image to the target diskette. It only copies between like formats and not between dissimilarly formatted diskettes. As a result, your copying gets done FASTer than a normal DOS copy, and you don't have to put the source diskette into the computer more than once to do and entire copy.

Multiple Copies Super Fast

HiCopy will make multiple copies to target diskettes very fast. All you have to do is keep feeding diskettes into the drives as each copy is completed. HiCopy automatically detects when you remove one diskette and insert a new one. 

Format and Copy in One Pass

HiCopy will detect whether your target diskette is properly formatted to accept the source diskette data in source diskette format. If the target diskette is either unformatted or wrongly formatted, HiCopy will format each track with the proper structure BEFORE copying the source into that track.

Automatic Verification/Compare

HiCopy automatically verifies that that the target diskette has accepted the source data correctly, and it notifies you if the target diskette is "weak" and requires retries to take the data. Thus, if the diskette is of poor quality, you will know immediately and not ruin the target disk with an invalid copy. HiCopy can compare multiple copied diskettes without the source diskette image that is in memory so you will KNOW they are good.
